A-Town on FaceBook

Really, really new info below. Read on...
Welcome to the new format of our newsletter! After receing a million requests from artists and other event producers, we've decided to develop this new format of communicating with our loyal event-goers. In this issue:

  • No High Society This Month -- Go to Gaudi (19+)
  • Renovations at Ginger 62
  • A-Town Productions' 5-Year Anniversary

No High Society this month -- Go to Gaudi (19+)
Thursday, July 31st, 2008 @ Red Room, 398 Richards Street.

There is no High Society event for the month of July as Ginger 62 is closed for renovations during the last Thursday of the month! So, all you partygoers should head on over to OUR favourite club nights held by Beats Without Borders. On Thursday, July 31st they will be featuring the "Dub & Breaks" music of Gaudi. For those of you that don't know, this talented producer has used Dub in some very innovative ways, including an album called Dub Qawwalli featuring the vocals of the late, great Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

So, July 31st, 2008 there will be no High Society event (but we're back in August!) so head on over to the Red Room... that's where you'll find the happy people of A-Town Productions.

High Society

You have GOT to check this cat out. Find him here: http://www.gaudimusic.com/
More info on the gig, here: http://www.beatswithoutborders.com/

19+ (it's not a High Society night after all)

Doors open at 9pm - Red Room, 398 Richards Street
Tickets $20 in advance / $25 at the door
Highlife Records (604-251-6964)
Sophia Books (604-684-8484)
Zulu Records (604-738-3232)

No Guestlist for this event
Demand for this gig is huge. So, unfortunately, we can not provide any sort of guestlist accomodation. We beg and emplore you to pick up your tickets in advance. This gig is not to be missed and we'd hate for any of our loyal party people to be turned away at the door.

Renovations at Ginger 62
High Society has been canceled for July, but will return on August 28th with our 5 year anniversary.

So, what do you do when you have the best ambiance, most beautiful lounge space, and all-around best venue in the city? Well, you tear it apart of course.

Ginger 62 - 1
Not going to look like this no more.

The ownership and management of Ginger 62 have seen fit to dump a bunch of money into gutting and remodeling the insides. The result? A whole new Ginger 62. And last month, we just thought the hand-dryers were awesome! (check them out, seriously they're crazy)

Ginger62 - 2
We hope they keep the pillows.

What does this mean for the High Society gigs? Not much. Essentially, our July gig had to be canceled, but we have the honour of being the very FIRST night to take place at Ginger after the renovations, on Thursday, August 28th. Read below for more info. Props to the staff and management at our favourite venue for continuously doing the ballsy things that make that place better and better. You, Mr. Rabold, are an intense individual.

A-Town Productions' 5-Year Anniversary
It all started with a guy named Reminisce, a few phone calls and a gig at Sugar and Sugar.

Anyone remember this flyer? This was our very first High Society night in 2003. What a ride it has been.

High Society 2003
The mad graphic design skills of Roop Nanuwa, circa 2003.

Thanks to the faith of the Sugar brothers Jason and Damon, we actually got this night off the ground on August 16th, 2003... and had a great time doing it. Since then, we've hopped around to a variety of venues, some of them the finest in the city, including: Crush, ZIN on Robson, Fluid, the Alibi Room, Azure, and finally Ginger 62. It was at Ginger that we decided to make our stand and take our adhoc club nights regular as a 23+ South Asian retro/new school mashup night called High Society. Aside from that, we've also had the opportunity to throw the absolute largest South Asian jams in the city (we had 1,300+ people at the Rocky Mountaineer Train Station!) and work with the biggest names in the Bhangra music industry, globally. Seriously... we're freaking crazy.

Thanks are due to DJ Reminisce and DJ Lajit for holding it down for 5 bloody years with a pain in the ass organization like A-Town. Thanks also to the staff and management of Ginger 62 for treating us like family. Good times.

High Society 2003

So, join us on Thursday, August 28th, 2008, where we party with our people, the partygoers, the media, the promoters, the DJs and the staff of Ginger 62. It will be a very special night as we celebrate the reopening of the beautiful and newly renovated Ginger, as well as the 5 year anniversary of A-Town Productions....
5 years of rocking the party and changing the scene.

High Society 2003

Please check back at our website, atownpresents.com or better yet join our Facebook page to get more info as it comes up. A 5 year anniversary only comes up like, once, so we're going to make it a rager. Expect some announcements on special guests, drink specials, performers, and more.
